Downy Books, 2023. Paper cover, 86pp., 4.5 x 6.5 inches

Vegetable Paper is a collection of 40 different kinds of handmade papers created in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, from 2022 to 2023. With seasonal vegetables, each paper is delicately cooked, pressed with a lithography stone for 3 to 7 days, and hand-cut into 4.5” by 6.5” sheets. The book includes an index with the names of the vegetables. The cover of the book is a tracing of a coin radish paper and is a replica of the clamshell box that holds all 40 original papers.
The project blossomed from a love for the summertime farmer’s market and an inclination to bring cooking into the realm of art.  From books made entirely of cabbage leaves to Jogakbo (traditional Korean patchwork) of radish papers, paper exists in multiple forms of craft.

This book was made possible by the generous support of Carnegie Mellon University's Frank-Ratchye Further Fund.
