Jogakbo, a traditional Korean patchwork of leftover fabrics, was a common domestic craft to create multipurpose wrapping cloth, bojagi. Korean women patched scrap fabrics together to preserve luck and give new life to the tiniest scraps. The Matter of Time is my rendition of a jogakbo made of vegetable papers, handmade by slicing and pressing seasonal vegetables. Inspired by the history of Korean immigrants preserving their cherished possessions in their bojagi, I imagine my paper jogakbo as an ever-moving, ever-changing, yet ephemeral home that can be folded and expanded.
